Trained Medical Interpreters

CyraCom's quality assurance process for interpreter recruiting, qualification assessment, and training and monitoring ensures accurate, reliable interpretation. This process contributes to improved patient care and clinical outcomes and is what makes the difference in our quality of service.

Interpreter Recruiting

CyraCom recruits interpreters based on current and projected client demand. We target already certified, trained, and experienced interpreters, searching for qualified applicants in highly regarded language or interpreting associations though universities, colleges, community organizations, and client referrals.

Interpreter Qualification Assessment

CyraCom conducts an in-depth screening interview and language proficiency assessment for each interpreter candidate. We analyze the candidate's language proficiency, knowledge of medical terminology, and skills in applying medical interpreter protocols, which includes the CyraCom Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics emphasizes the importance of complete, accurate and confidential interpretation.

Interpreter Training

Each employee candidate completes 120 hours of classroom instruction in medical interpretation. Using innovative training techniques, the candidates learn to facilitate an accurate flow of communication between Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and healthcare providers. In each training session, candidates practice cultural competency and learn how to provide resolution to cultural issues that can arise while providing healthcare to LEP patients.

Before becoming active, interpreters receive advanced training in the CyraCom Medical Interpreter Program (CMIP). CMIP provides participants with 40 hours of intensive study in anatomy and physiology, medical procedures, common medical conditions, and medical terminology. Participants also review cultural competency models and learn how to employ them during medical interpretation.

Interpreter Monitoring

We continuously monitor our interpreters at random to confirm that they are adhering to CyraCom medical interpretation standards and procedures. The monitoring process rates each interpreter's level of competency and provides detailed feedback to encourage professional development. We also appreciate and encourage client feedback regarding interpreter performance.
